Individual Fundraising
There are various ways that you can raise funds from individuals:
This is a tried-and-true fundraising tactic, though not as popular as it once was. Direct mail donations can take a number of forms such as National appeals from larger charities.
▪️ For example: most households get a fundraising letter from Crisis through their doors for the annual ‘Crisis at Christmas ‘campaign. In today’s world, direct mail as I mentioned above is not used as much as in the past due to the fact that so much content is digital. Charities that do use this method tend to also provide a way to donate online. Local appeals for items to raise funds. For example, a letter through the door asking for items to be donated to a local charity shop or event.

This refers to any donations made online and is completed through your website, social media, or on a crowdfunding site. To be able to take these you will need to partner with a fundraising platform. Most of these platforms take you through set-up step by step.

Social media continues to boom as an online fundraising channel due to the sheer number of people on various platforms — over 3.5 billion people globally, to be exact.
▪️ For example, Facebook allows individuals to run fundraisers on their news feed and for their birthdays. The platform has also released a “Donate Now” button for organisation’s Pages.
▪️ On Instagram, you can share a URL in your Bio that takes your followers directly to your fundraising site/ web page — you can even write a short description of your cause, or fundraiser in your bio to pair it with the URL. Lastly, no matter the platform, social media makes it very easy to share content about your cause, why you’re fundraising, and who’s already involved to get others excited to become involved.
These days, people are rarely without their phones and there are multiple ways to donate using your mobile device. This is a growing area of fundraising and as with web platforms the top companies behind the apps lead you through their service and set-up. Some of the most popular are Instagiv where you can set up ways that people can give on-line, Donr where you set up text to give campaigns and Easyfundraising where you as a charity sign up and then encourage your supporters to shop at selected stores on-line. The more they shop via the app, the more donations your charity receives.
